Professional Laundress / Wardrobe Care Specialist £50,000
A prestigious private household in London is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Laundress / Wardrobe Care Specialist to manage all aspects of clothing and textile care. This is an excellent opportunity for a discreet, highly organised professional with a passion for fine garments and meticulous standards.
Responsibilities:
- Sort laundry by colour, fabric type, and care requirements
- Wash clothing, linens, towels, and delicates according to care labels
- Hand-wash specialty items such as silk, lace, and cashmere
- Pre-treat stains using appropriate methods and products
- Iron, steam, or press garments as required
- Fold and neatly store laundry in designated areas
- Organise wardrobes, drawers, and closets by season, owner, or function
- Check clothing for loose buttons, broken zippers, or minor damage
- Perform basic mending and coordinate complex repairs with a tailor or dry cleaner
- Maintain an inventory of luxury and delicate garments
- Handle high-end clothing and fabrics with specialist techniques
- Clean and properly store outerwear, hats, gloves, and scarves
- Maintain tidy and organised linen closets
- Use specified laundry detergents and fabric softeners, including eco-friendly or hypoallergenic products
- Clean and maintain laundry machines, irons, and steamers
- Report supply needs or maintenance issues to the House Manager
- Prioritise urgent laundry requests (e.g. event or travel preparations)
- Coordinate with housekeepers and House Manager for household events or guest stays
- Unpack suitcases, ensuring garments are cleaned, wrinkle-free, and properly stored
- Report any missing or damaged items promptly
- Handle intimate and personal items discreetly
- Always respect the employer’s privacy and clothing preferences
Requirements:
- Proven experience in a similar role within a private household or luxury environment
- In-depth knowledge of garment care, stain removal, fabric types, and care labels
- High attention to detail and organisational skills
- Discretion, professionalism, and respect for confidentiality
- Ability to work independently and as part of a household team
- Flexible and responsive to changing priorities
- Fluent in English
